2021 saw the celebration of the much overdue COP26 as world leaders came together in Glasgow to discuss the best ways in which to tackle our urgent climate crisis. At the conference an agreement was made that despite not being legally binding, set the global agenda on climate change for the next 10 years. This includes:

  • Cutting carbon dioxide emissions, as countries agreed to ensure that temperature doesn’t rise beyond 1.5 degrees of warming.
  • Reducing the usage of coal, as it is the cause of 40% of CO2 emissions, although the public  have criticised the plan as countries changed their commitment from ‘phase out’ to ‘phase down’ after intervention from China and India.
  • Support developing countries, as the agreement pledged to transfer money towards helping poorer countries to cope with the effects of global warming and make the switch to renewable energy.
  • World leaders also agreed to phase-out subsidies, although without a set date in place this has the potential to be a weak promise.

The conference also involved leaders from over 100 countries promising to stop deforestation and cut methane emissions by 30% by 2030, although the pledge was not carried out by significant countries like Russia, China and India.

Alucan pioneers in sustainability

Here at Alucan we are proud to be pioneers in sustainability within the manufacturing, packaging and aluminium industries, as we aim to match the standards set by environmentalists and world leaders through constant innovation that allows us to grow whilst remaining respectful of our environment. The only way is forward, and as such rather than remaining complacent in our current efforts we are constantly seeking ways in which to support our commitment to sustainability and the fight against our current climate crisis. We extend these efforts beyond our creation of a sustainable, 100% recyclable and reusable product that challenges the limits of packaging, as we focus on the areas of transport, production and facilities to ensure sustainability is at the forefront of everything we do. In 3 years we have reduced our carbon footprint to 19.2% and we will continue to fight to further reduce our impact. Welcome to a future of sustainability. This is Alucan.
