Around 8.3 billion tonnes of plastic have been produced since the 1950s– the equivalent to the weight of one billion elephants or 47 million blue whales. In our current planet, plastic pollution has become a world crisis, as numerous industries rely on the material to a life-threatening amount. This crisis, puts the sustainability of our planet in danger, as millions of tonnes of plastic waste end up in our oceans, threatening up to 700 marine species, but it’s danger extends even to people that live near a river, or low-income communities who are more especially exposed to the toxins and waste. Despite its overwhelming presence in our world, scientists estimate that only 9% of this plastic has been recycled, 12% has been burned and the remaining 79% has ended up in landfills or the environment.
Our values of sustainability
Alucan Entec was founded upon values of sustainability. In fact, the company was born to offer an eco-friendly alternative to plastic packaging and containers, in an attempt to push industries and companies to re-think their environmental practices and consciously opt for alternatives that make the health of our planet a priority. The key to our success in creating a practical, sustainable and functional product is in our humility and continuous thirst for innovation, consistently searching for cleaner technologies and more respectful ways of delivering our packaging. 100% sustainable is a pipe dream but we are willing to fight for it.
All of our bottles and aerosols, are produced with 100% recyclable aluminium, so that they can be reused forever and safely disposed of to be repurposed into a new life. Moreover, we also produce with 25%, 50%, 75% and 100% recycled aluminium to the request of our clients, using Post-Consumer Recycled aluminium in these cases, aluminium that comes from the packaging used by consumers and is then recovered, washed and crushed to be returned to the production process.
Still, we are conscious of the environmental impact of aluminium production, and work even further to reduce our carbon footprint. We mix alloys with our aluminium so our bottles are more sustainable and lightweight. In fact, because aluminium bottles and aerosols make efficient use of space, they require less transport than plastic or glass, as we consistently aim to reduce contamination through the transport of our bottles. Furthermore, Alucan’s contracted electricity is electricity from renewable energies and high efficiency cogeneration, whilst we continue to invest in clean technologies to make our manufacturing more eco-friendly. We extend our ethos everywhere, as we encourage the total elimination of plastic in our workers in plant and offices alike, offering sustainable alternatives instead.
